Somatic Experiencing, Trauma Resolution and Nervous System Support
Introducing My Book
My book, Somatic Healing: Soothe Your Nervous System with Body-First Therapy, will be published by DK/Penguin Random House on November 3, 2026.
Somatic Healing is a practical, fully illustrated guide to understanding your nervous system and using the body as an ally in healing. It brings together the science of how our bodies respond to stress and trauma with more than 100 guided somatic practices to help you regulate your nervous system, reconnect with sensation and emotion, and feel more at home in your body.
Writing it meant untangling nearly two decades of study, teaching, and practice — Somatic Experiencing®, trauma-informed yoga, expressive arts, public health, neuroscience, Eastern traditions, and years of client work — into something a reader could actually use. I wanted a book that could hold modern science and ancient wisdom, knowledge and experience, the brain and the body, together: grounded in science without losing the mystery, creativity, and deeply human experience of living in a body.
The first half of the book helps you understand the mind-body connection, your nervous system, survival responses, dissociation, sensation, and the ways our bodies adapt to what we experience. The second half brings that understanding into practice, with accessible somatic exercises you can use in everyday life. I introduce skills to release stress and tension, move through anger and anxiety, work with grief and difficult emotions, reconnect after shutdown, and cultivate greater vitality, pleasure, playfulness, and joy.
Whether you're completely new to somatic healing or have been exploring this work for years, my hope is that this book gives you new ways to listen to your body, understand its signals, and work with your nervous system rather than against it.
Ultimately, Somatic Healing is about more than regulation. It's about coming home to the body, and finding greater wholeness, connection, and aliveness in a world that so often pulls us away from ourselves.
